A message to Facebook users..

You know what pisses me off? People who mindlessly copy and paste a status on their page which then urges others to pass it on without actually seeing whether said statement is actually true..

How fricken hard is it to do a little research? I mean just now I see this on someone's page..

PARENTS !!!!! BEWARE !!!!!!!!! To all parents of children who have a profile on Facebook !!!, there is a man who is attempting to contact kids to talk about sex! His name is Thierry Mairot. Please copy and paste on your wall. This info is to be shared, PROTECT OUR CHILDREN, He is also using the name of Justin Bieber on his profile !!!!!

I saw this and immediately googled this Thierry Mairot name. Low and behold.. a dozen myth/hoax buster sites with this persons name on it. My favourite being THIS ONE .
Like the article says, it is ridiculous and potentially damaging to pass dribble like this on without proof. Not to mention the damage it is doing to the poor unfortunate person who bears the name of said deviant.

It's just dumb and it annoys me to no end.

That being said, I think it IS wrong for young children to be allowed a Facebook profile. Or at the least to only use under strict adult supervision. There are, unfortunately sexual predators out there and yes they can slip through the cracks. Sometimes.

  1. Face book is becoming more and more annoying. Not just stupid things like that but the "share" thing when people are posting sooo many updates. Yes some are funny but really do you need to post a dozen times at once.
Stop clogging up my news feed please

  2. If you know someone (or are related to someone) who has been eaten by dragons, please post this as your status. My wish for 2012 is that people will understand, that being eaten by dragons is not something to be ashamed of. Dragons are nearly unstoppable.

  5. I'm wary of things like this too, just as I'm wary of spam. It's hard when we have to use our instincts and our sense of trust as well as learn through experience in this mine field called the Internet. And as you suggest it may be harder for little ones. Though they also might grow to me be more savvy than their parents. My children are, but they are now adults and to some extent have grown up online.

  6. @Elisabeth you are right and I am not worried about the smart ones.. It's the uneducated and innocent I worry for.

  7. FB is getting more frustrating all the time. People too. Thankfully my kids are adults and I don't have to deal with keeping track of what they are into! Hugs to all you parents with young ones.

  8. Parents these days have so many more things to worry about than when Mrs. Chatterbox and I were raising our child.

  9. I deleted my Facebook account. Too much drama and the common denominator was Facebook. I agree, hate it when people don't do research.

  11. @Carole.. I know.. I am constantly annoyed at the stupid things people put in their status.
@Stephen they do but I wish they were a bit smarter about what they post.
@Nubian If I didn't have family on there I would delete mine as well..
@Al I think you should go for it Al, sounds like a good deal to me... ;)

  12. Never liked FB and it got worse.

Back in the last century when we were growing up, bad or irritating people just didn't make it into homes.

    Mostly.;)

  13. You hit on one of my pet peeves as well. Sometimes I feel like I'm the FB police, the number of times I had to rein some friends in for falling for these obvious hoaxes. And I particularly loathe the "copy & paste this or else" memes the most. Grrrrr! I always ignore those and just go about my business. My friends understand this about me by now. :)

@David I know right! Most times I let them go but if it really bugs me I comment..
