The Naming of Cats...

The naming of Cats is a difficult matter.
It isn’t just one of your holiday games
You may think at first I’m as mad as a Hatter
When I tell you a cat must have three different names.
Etc..

Do you know this poem by T.S.Eliot? I do.  Even though it was some years ago (Hey I’m not going to get into just how many years ago it was) lest just say it was some.
Anyway...some years ago, when I was doing high school (year 11 and 12) our speech and drama class entered the Estedford.
The Estedford was/is an annual performing arts competition. School groups enter, individuals enter... it is an open competition, and you are put into categories based on what you are performing and age group. They had a variety of things to do such as poetry reading, a group performance, piano, violin, singing..etc.
Our class won both years that we performed. For our year 12 act our teacher chose “The Naming of Cats”. We practiced for weeks until the big night. Costumes were easy. Yes we dressed up as cats. I remember the costume I made was black leggings and black top with fake fur attached to my ankles and wrists. I also attached a couple of cute black ears to a headband. I did my makeup myself to, and the overall affect was quite awesome. I remember the professional makeup artist who had come in to do some cat faces was quite impressed with my efforts.
Anyway we had the best night, made all the more special because we won our category and our other year 12 class won theirs. Later, to celebrate we walked stalked the city streets.. in full cat costume! I remember that night fondly. A bunch of rowdy, happy teenage cats with not a care in the world.

Oh and this post was inspired by The Chubby Chatterbox!

Art Journal

While I have been busy schooling my son and getting hubby ready for his operation in a couple of weeks, I have been focusing on my art journal in my down time. Doing nearly one double page a day. So here are just a few select scans. Some of these are a little shadowed but that is due to how the page scanned, not on the actual finished art work.
This one I had just bought my fabulous Caran d'ache wax soluble crayons and so I was experimenting with them on a pre-prepared background. The writing is part of my spring poem.

Yes I DID draw around my hands :)

Used bubble wrap as a stamp for the background on this page

I made this background and loved it so much I decided to just leave it as is.

this is me trying to draw a face..lol. It's kind of supposed to be me.  the poem is mine. It's called "To Breathe"

So like I said before, most of my pages have my own poetry on them, or verses taken from a longer poem I have written. I like to work in mixed media. I use acrylic paint, inks, stamps, wax soluble crayons, pen, gel pens, paint pens, texture paste. I also like to use all sorts of things to get some texture onto some of my pages (like bubble wrap!). It has made the book somewhat bulky and I'm not even a third of the way through yet..lol. But so far I love it and find it extremely therapeutic. You should try making one for yourself!

Housekeeping.

Hi there. Just a quick note to let you know that I have reluctantly applied comment moderation on my Blog. I am sick to death of seeing those disgusting spam comments that pop up from time to time. They are especially NOT appreciated on a post such as my last one. I don't know who posts these stupid comments but I hope they feel real clever and intelligent. Because their comments are the total opposite. It's disrespectful, and plain rude. Jerks.

There. I'm done.
For the rest of my lovely readers, do not worry, I will most definitely post your comments as soon as I get to them.

Sprite over and out.

Unfair.

Hi everyone.
Well I wanted to tell you all about our holiday and show some pics, but I'm just not in the mood at the moment. We got some sad news yesterday and I don't really feel like doing much else. My little sisters boyfriends Dad was tragically killed in a farming accident. While I didn't know the man personally, it was only a few days ago that my sister was telling me what a nice man he was and how he had welcomed her into their family with open arms. I could tell she cared deeply for him. And that is why I am sad. Sad that a wonderful man, so loved by such a big family and friends has died suddenly, and sad for the pain that my sister, her boyfriend and everyone else is going through. It has got me down.
It's just so wrong, so unfair.

This is the second person that I know, to have lost their dad since my own Dads operation. It really makes me appreciate even more that I still have my Dad around.

Life is so precious.
