Sharing secret moments of hilarity.

My mother and I have a very similar sense of humour, and always find ourselves sharing secret moments of hilarity. Sometimes at the most inappropriate of times.
The other day after the funeral of our friend, everyone was gathered under the nice under covered area, gathered into small groups. Some solemn, others laughing and talking. There were two tables filled with lovely plates full of treats, so given we were hungry, we sort to empty these serving trays of their burdens. I was standing in front of my Mum, both of us clutching our little empty paper plates when suddenly she dropped hers. I bent down to pick it up and the man in front of me just happened to put his foot back at the same time and stood on the plate. I was in a precarious position, bent over with my hand on the plate, and my head hovering near the man’s suit-clad buttocks. I finally managed to pry the plate out from under his foot, and, straightening up, noticed my mother in silent hysterics. So I said to her.. “I thought I was going to have to drop-kick him there for a minute”.. which put us into fits of giggles.
Another time we were at our local restaurant waiting for our meals to arrive. My parents were there, along with Hubby’s Dad and girlfriend. I don’t know how it happened but my Dad put his drink down on the table and it clipped the edge of his fork, sending it hurtling, end on end up over his head and back towards the lady seated behind us, narrowly missing skewering Dad’s eye as it sailed past. Luckily it didn’t hit the lady, who was none the wiser. As my Dad sheepishly retrieved it off the floor, my Mum and I were almost catatonic with laughter. No-one else really saw it happen.
There are times we share that the other wasn’t there to see, but laugh at all the same... like the time all the plastic bags escaped out of the boot of my car and terrorised the neighbourhood..
Or when a duck... a DUCK... SAT on my Mums shoulder. Just because.
None of this is funny to anyone else, but they are things I love to share with my Mum. Things I will always remember with a smile or a giggle.

In other news... I have had my eye appointment. The steroids don't appear to be treating this latest Uveitis, but they still want me to stay on them. I go back in a month, but in the mean time I have to have another electrode test... remember way back when I had to have those wires  ON MY EYE BALLS....? Yes, I have to do THAT again. BLECK! fun times...fun times....

Got my parcel from Amazon. .. a Q&A 5 year journal..
What you do is answer the question on the top of the page, then come back in five years and do the same. It's a really neat way to see how your life changed, if at all, over a five year period...
Anyway...the cover is made of brown paper and I think I might add my own flair to it and do some drawing on it as well.. I'll post pics when it is done.

My ocean is so blue today and it is calling to me, so see you all and have a great weekend. stay safexx

Through my eye(s)

This is a picture I took of Melbourne...

And THIS is how I see it through my left eye...

See why I am scared now? It feels like I am watching a 3D movie without the glasses, all funky and wrong. Makes me queasy as well.
But still... last night I drew THIS...
Nice hey? it's a zentangle pattern I was trying out for the first time called Purk..lol! and yep, I FINALLY have my scanner running.

I DREW today...

Well my left eye may be stuffed for good and my arm is killing me (although not so much as last night after the injection...WOW that hurt like a SOAB!!), but a least I did something today. Today I DREW... and it felt good (although it was a bit difficult) Anyway here is today's effort...

Here are a few more I've done since the last lot...
This one I drew on the beach..it's a clam btw..

This one reminds me of the spiral shell left over from a sea urchin...

See a theme going on here..? yep. The sea and eyes..lol.
Sorry about the creaminess of the paper, it IS white but I took the pics with my camera as I don't have my scanner set up yet.
So I am going to the funeral tomorrow..I think there will be quite a few people there. Any way. It will be good to say goodbye.

Hope you all have a great weekend :)

OO! In other exciting news. I can now play "Song of Joy" on the guitar. Not very well mind you, but I was even able to work out all by myself and then play the verse bit that wasn't written in the book.. how's that! LOL!

Spiralling Down...

In a deep spiral of depression. My arm is killing me (I get a shot in it today) my eye doesn't appear to be getting any better. There are two spots now, and they are growing...My worst fear seems to be coming true. I can't see properly. I can't focus on my computer screen, can't draw, can't read.... can't do the things I love that relax and refresh me and throw me out of my funk. I have a 5 minute suduku book that usually takes me two minutes..last night I couldn't even finish it. My head hurts.
I could just get over it and try to make the most of it. But right now, I choose not to. This sucks and I am going to wallow in my misery for a while.

Oh and I am going to a funeral on Saturday :(

It never rains...It Bloody POURS!

As if having Bursitis wasn't bad enough... You all know my problems with my eye... well yesterday I noticed a new blind spot! Right near where the optic nerve is situated... So I had to rush into the eye clinics emergency department today. The doctor in Melbourne told me that if it ever flared up again, to get to emergency straight away.. so I did just that..
Anyway... 5 hours later I eventually get seen by my head doctor and SHE SEES IT! She sees the spot! Then she says "Hmm... I don't like that".. oh..
Not good but at least she has seen this thing when it is active... and so tomorrow I start on a course of the ol' steroids.. yay.. (not)
So I WONT be getting the shot in the shoulder tomorrow.... can't really take a double dose of the roids.. (I sound like some junkie). Hopefully the tablets will treat my shoulder as well.
The side affects are lovely to read... bloating, weight gain, or anorexia, nausea, stretch marks and so on..... hmm... so hard to chose which one is worse.

Meanwhile...

Melbourne and Harry Potter.

So I received a letter from the eye hospital in Melbourne and my appointments are in a month! But, not to panic because, Hubby and I are so organised we already have our accommodation booked. As it's a 20 hour drive we are breaking it up into half and are staying at Dubbo. The half way point. The reason we chose Dubbo is because the Taronga Western plains Zoo is located there and I really want to go, (LEMURS people!) and the tickets are for two days. So we have booked a site for three nights.
We have booked a nice two bedroom cabin about 35 minutes drive from the Hospital. Well, actually we won't be driving into the city because apparently parking in Melb's is pretty pricey. But the public transport is supposed to be good, so public transport it is. Besides, we get to go on a tram. Never been on a tram before, and, when in Melbourne, you go on a tram. LOL! Oh, if any of you have been to Melbourne, can you recommend some places for good shopping, eating etc...? I am going to get my Google on, but there is nothing like local intell ;)

Why the Harry Potter movies are perfect. Just the way they are:
I have recently seen the last instalment of the Harry Potter movies. I absolutely loved it. It’s been a long journey, full of laughs, sadness, and wonderment. I’m sad that it’s over. But it couldn’t have ended more perfectly, and I wouldn’t even want to see any more Harry Potter movies being made. My reasons?
These movies that they churn out, rehashing the same old story lines, are just plain old boring.
Bad guy threatens mans existence, Hero defeats Bad guy. Hero saves the world. But then they do it all over again... NEW bad guy makes a tonne of unfun, same old hero defeats new bad guy. Hero saves the world... Again.
Boring.
Harry Potter?
One Bad guy.
One hero.
End of story.

Bought a GPS. Voice is named Karen. Karen was my Hubby's ex. I do not like GPS Karen. GPS Karen wanted to send us off the highway on some route other than the way I wanted to go. Told Hubby it was either GPS Karen or WIFE.
 Hubby wisely chose wife :)

Finally got a picture of the Male wren. It's not fabulous, and the female is showing off her butt, but he finally sat still long enough for me to capture him.

I got another pic of them actually sitting side by side but the female was doing this weird feather plucky thing down her front, so, not a good shot. Anyway. This is the leader of the harem :)

Cattle farms and eyes

So I had a nice chat to the folks last night. Apparently where they had the accident, was on some rich guys VAST cattle property. He came upon the wrecked trailer, and did some fancy towing (remember it was minus wheels) back to his place. He informed the police, and when my parents rang them, they gave them his number. So he is going to send down the rego and number plates to them. What a nice guy.
They are staying at the teachers house now, while they are overseas, and the bus driver has loaned them the use of a trailer.
Also the cattle ranch guy has asked them if they would like to house sit at one of his other cattle ranches while the managers are away on their holidays. Pretty cool hey?

I had a phone call from the eye specialist in Melbourne today. They have received all the info from my eye clinic already and have passed it on to the Doctors for review. Hopefully I will be hearing from them soon and we will be making a trip to Melbourne :) Exciting and a little scary thinking about the tests they will be performing on me. I did not like the electrodes on my eyeballs at all... lol.

I have finally got started on my sons SPACE painting I promised him. The canvas is no longer just a black expanse...lol

Heyall!

I have been away for a while. Not ACTUALLY away, but found myself not having much time to be on here. Its school holidays now and we have had some busy days. We like making sure our son has a good time during the holidays because he works so hard on his school work. His report card was good for this term. Today we went to the movies to see Transformers 3. It was awesome. Except it was a looooong movie, and I needed to pee real bad at the end.

We also spent the day volunteering at the grand opening of the Thrift shop that supports the non-profit organisation we are members of. They moved to a new, bigger premises and held a sausage sizzle for the customers. Hubby was delegated to do the BBQ. Meanwhile I was inside in their ironing room preparing new stock to go out onto the shop floor. The day was a big success, and I ended up finding a nice black vinyl jacket for only $20.

We finished our project. It was, in fact a Kitty house for Moby, who has taken up residence in it, even though we haven’t painted it. I think it will stay not painted. Moby seems quite happy with it. We left the lid on the barrel, and Hubby cut out a hole for Moby to get in and out of. Hubby specially rolled over the metal around the edges to prevent any booboo’s. Will have pics of it in next post.

Yesterday saw us taking another trip into the city so Hubby could de-register his business. And the place we had to go to just happened to be one block down from our favourite Japanese Restaurant. YAY! Yummy lunch!

I have received some information by a lovely lady who recommended me to a specialist in Melbourne that can maybe help me with my eye issues. I know I won’t regain the sight I’ve lost, but hopefully I can stop it from happening again, or at least find out 100% that I actually do have Ocular Autoimmune Disease. I am going to contact them and see what can be done. It’s actually a bit exciting, planning a trip down to Melbourne. I’ve made a few overseas trips in my life but have never actually been out of my home state of Queensland to explore the rest of Australia. Melbourne always seemed so Hip and Arty to me. Hopefully will be able to do a bit of retail therapy as well.

A friend of mine is 19 weeks pregnant. She posted her scan pics on FB. They are having a boy. While I am happy for her, it makes me sad. I am going to her baby shower if I think I can handle it. I have wrapped up the baby clothes we bought for ourselves for our own little bundle that didn’t happen, to give to her. But it’s good they are going to someone else. Someone who will appreciate it.
Speaking of baby things, I must say a BIG thank you to Deb at poetesswug. I won one of her amazing creations and it arrived safely in the post yesterday! It’s very cute. Yes it’s a baby wrap, but I’m sure I will find some use for it.

I have a new friend. He is yellow and so very cute and keeps me company at my desk. He is the fat chick(en) from the movie “Hop”. I think he is adorable. Hubby thinks he has crazy eyes and doesn’t like it looking at him. Funny considering HE was the one who bought it for me.
 Awww....

Ocular Autoimmune Disease

That's apparently what I have.
As you can guess I had another eye appointment today. Basically I have this Ocular Autoimmune disease. It's very rare. For some reason only known to itself, my immune system has decided to attack my left eye. It's treatable. But ONLY when active. Which mine is not. And the treatment only treats the active bits.
Any damage that has been done so far is here to stay. So I wont be getting full vision back in my left eye. Ever.
It seems it has stabilised. Hopefully.

But, not one to stay down when kicked, I am scouring the internet to see if there is anything else that can be done. Have come across a few interesting sites that I will contact. They seem to be a little bit more specialised in Autoimmune diseases. Maybe the specialist I see is not "special" enough..lol.

Feeling really bummed about the whole thing. Called my parents to tell them. Started missing them. Really needed a hug. Cried for a bit.

Stupid Immune system....

WE HAVE A BLEEDER!!!

Firstly.. MY MY! I wake up and I have FIVE new followers! WELCOME! Thanks for joining me here :)

Well after a horrible nights unsleep  the alarm woke us up at 6am. My son was having a typical Aspergers morning and nothing was right in his eyes, even his weetbix was too soggy. Half asleep we all managed to feed, and clothe ourselves and then pile grumpily into the car. Then battled for an hour and a half through peek hour traffic. I arrived at the hospital with half an hour to spare. They know me pretty well now so Paul, the lovely nurse, takes me straight in to check my eyes and put the drops that make me look like ET in. I make sure I tell him what a traumatic experience I had last time, and he is very sympathetic.  Like I wasn’t fishing for sympathy or anything.... J
Anyway he tells me that the doctor putting in the cannula today is experienced. In walks this young thing that looks old enough to put over my knee and spank. (‘Twas tempting, he WAS a cutie). I shoot a worried look at Paul “Are you sure he’s not a trainee?”
“Do I look that young do I?” asks Doogie Howser.
I am not convinced but let him at it anyway. He pokes and prods and slaps my arm to find the vein, and decides he is going for the “big one” inside my elbow. He pushes the needle in and so far it’s ok. Until he starts jiggling it round.
“Hmm” Doogie says.
Hmm..? Why Hmm..? that doesn’t sound promising.
Poke poke...
“Opps! These big veins bleed a bit”
OK. A bit. Not too bad then. I take a look (As I’ve had my eyes squeezed shut) A BIT?!?!
There is dark red blood all over the cannula, pooled in the bend of my arm, all over Doogies gloved hands, running down my arm and spreading outwards on the protective sheet , on the pillow I have my arm resting on and a spot on my grey slacks. WTF? Did I totally just squirt blood everywhere or what?
Poor Doogie is now trying to hold the line in my arm, while mopping up the blood, while trying to open one of those sticky plasters they use to hold the cannula down.
“Do you want me to hold something?” I ask, secretly amused at his floundering attempts to look professional.
“No it’s ok”
Dang, now he gets my blood all over the table, and he has to wipe that up as well. Hehee...
He wipes my arm with a wet cloth and the irony smell of blood hits my nostrils. BLECK!!! (No I didn’t vomit, that’s what I thought)
He then kind of just leaves me. With my arm still with dried blood on it. Ok.... I go out to the waiting room a bit frazzled. I don’t even have time to get my iPod out when lovely Paul is herding me into the photo room. Low and behold the insanely expensive camera is still working. They take a few shots and then inject in the dye. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and not in a good way. Also a little like I want to hurl, and hot. Like sweaty hot. The flashes from the camera don’t worry me at all in the left eye (Can’t see them) but they are painfully bright in the right eye.
All finished, we wait to see if I die instantly, which doesn’t happen, so Paul takes out the cannula, clicking his tongue at all the blood on me. He wipes it all off and sticks the cotton bud over the wound. I’m all done so I head off for the loo and do my INSANELY EXPENSIVE FLURO YELLOW PEE! Which, I may add takes a bit of flushing to get rid of. LOL!
8 hours later:
It’s STILL yellow!! J
I have an appointment soon to discuss the results. But the doctor who took the photo said that it looks like I have what they were suspecting I had at the very beginning of all this.
“which is?” I ask
“Blahdeblah Blahdittybla Blahbla.” He answers.
“Oh” I nod knowingly
Yeah. I have no idea. I will wait till the appointment and get them to write it down.
Oh and I still look like ET...
or the cat doing his cute look on Shrek...
Phoneee Hooomeee....

Sookie-lala and Doctor McStickems'.

Happy Australia Day!
Mine started out ok.  It was a typical sweltering Oz Day at 36 degrees (96.8 F).  We went and had lunch at our favourite all-you-can-eat place just around the corner from us. Stuffed ourselves silly at just $30 for the three of us!
Came home full and content until half hour later and BAM! It hit me. No not over-eaters remorse.
My. Damned. Period.
GGRRRR...
This is how I spent the next six hours. Curled up in the foetal position on the bed in agony.  I’m not going to rant on about this because this is never a good time for me, I’m still in quite a bit of pain, as the meds are wearing off and I don’t want to come off as a whiner.  And I have the extra joy of it happening every month, so what’s the point.
Tomorrow I go to hospital for another fluorescein angiogram. I’m not looking forward to it. For one thing I will make sure they don’t let a trainee doctor put the cannula in. Last time I had this young guy butcher my hand. Sticking the needle into my hand and pushing it back and forth trying to find the vein. I should have told him to stop, but I was afraid they would pull it out and try again and the thought of that I could not bear, so I sat there while this idiot poked and prodded into the flesh of my hand looking for this damn vein. Meanwhile there is blood streaming down my hand coating my rings and dripping all over the protective sheet they put down on my lap. Another trainee doc is standing next to him saying “you’ve got it” I am sweating, nearly screaming in agony, while fighting the urge to punch him, throw up, then faint. In that order.
Finally he gets it and tapes it all down. THEN BEATS A HASTY RETREAT. The female trainee doc washes the blood off my hand, I think she felt bad for me. I am sitting there traumatized and hurting. Feeling so dizzy. The nurse comes back not knowing what went on, puts in the pupil dilating drops that make me look like ET, and takes me back out to the waiting room. There are a few people who are having the same procedure before me. They obviously didn’t get stuck by Doctor Mc Stickems’. So I have time to sit there and pull myself together. Then it’s my turn to go in.
A fluorescein angiogram involves you sitting there while they take a number of photos inside your eye.(with a camera that costs an insane amount of money, that keeps breaking) Then they inject the Fluorescein (Which apparently costs an insane amount of money) into the blood stream. They then have only a few short minutes to get some more photos before the Fluorescein runs through your system. It’s like a florescent dye that helps them see the blood vessels at the back of your eye.
Pretty much after that I have to go pee. FLORESCENT INSANELY EXPENSIVE YELLOW PEE!! It’s pretty funny.
Anyway, I had to wait after the procedure because there are a few side effects they have to watch for with the Fluorescein. Mainly instant DEATH. Which is comforting.  The nurse came in and she looked at my hand.
“What happened!”
Me “That trainee doctor butchered me” *sad face*
She slowly took out the cannula and it hurt so bad. She put a cold pack on my hand. It was purple and had a huge lump on it. Afterwards, I am sitting outside the hospital, waiting for hubby to pick me up, I’m hurting, blind from humongous pupils in sunlight, and then a man suddenly collapses on the ground and starts having a seizure or something. Medical people come from all directions to help. Hubby arrives and I jump in the car and burst into tears. I know, I’m a sookie-lala, but it was a horrid day.
So needless to say I’m not looking forward to tomorrow.
