A little research goes a long way.

I am so sick of people posting things on facebook without doing a little bit of research first to see whether it's true or not.
I mean, it only takes one or two clicks to search the snopes.com website. It's ridiculous and stupid.
There. I said it.
STUPID!!
I get so annoyed when I see these things in my news thread, because they are from people I know.. even family. Some times I let it go, but other times, when the post is potentially harmful I need to say something and just politely point out that the post is a proven hoax.
People who click and share these "READ THIS! THIS IS REAL!..." type posts are just adding to the masses of unnecessary hysteria, and making more stupid people too scared to leave their own homes for fear of  having their organs harvested, knocked out by Ether laced perfumes, or my favourite, contracting Leptospirosis from a soda can that some rat peed on.
Just the fact that it says "THIS IS REAL!!" in capital type, and followed by many exclamation marks no less, should give them a clue that this post may not be entirely true. Some of these hoaxes are so old, they have even had some editing done to them to bring them up to date with the times. So before you share these crap posts please, for the love of all that is left sane in this world, please do some research.

End of rant.

    1. OMG! does that mean I am not safe eating/drinkiing anything...ever again?? I'll have to become one of those weird people who survive solely on their own urine.

  3. I'm in complete agreement. Sadly, Mrs. C always gets caught with those hoaxes & I have to remind her to look up if it's true before she shares it.

  5. Uh oh. I was guilty of posting that Adam Sandler had died when it wasn't true. I took it RIGHT DOWN!

    1. Well you could be easily mistaken for that one. I am talking more about the silly ones like I mentioned in my post :) At least you took it down when you realised your mistake :)

  6. Wow, I was JUST complaining about this to myself literally 5 minutes before reading this post. I was on FB and saw a phony scene from Toy Story 3 depicting an obscene shadow in the background that was never actually there in the movie itself. And of course TONS of people over on FB are falling for the hoax and losing it, ranting about pervy Disney animators and what have you.

    *sigh*

Look it up, people! Or as I like to do, just assume everything is a hoax or photoshop job and move on. Makes life easier for me, it does.

  8. I couldn't agree more!! I also hate those posts that state something bad will happen to you if you don't share it, or the ones that guilt you into sharing it. I very rarely share any of those strictly on principal! I don't need to be bullied into sharing a post, thanks. lol. And now I've started my own mini rant!! *ahem*

  9. Hmmmm, I must have better FB friends than you! Hee hee!
Ya, it's annoying, so are the 3 yapping dogs across the lane, but I know I'll never be able to stop it so I just ignore and enjoy the good things about FB.
